Mucocele

Mucocele is also known as a mucous cyst. It is a fluid-filled swelling that occurs on the lip of the mouth. Most cysts are on the lower lip, but they can occur anywhere in the mouth. Softness
Bluish color
Raised swelling

Tenderness

Who is at the risk?Anyone can be affected by this and more than 75% of the time it occurs in people who are younger than 40 years of age. Apart from that superficial mucoceles occurs more in females who are more than 30 years of age.Mucocele causes -The most common cause of mucous cyst is due to the trauma to the oral cavity such as:

Piercing
Cheek biting
Lip biting (most common cause)
Accidental rupture of salivary gland
Adjacent teeth causing chronic damage

Some other causes for the development of a mucous cyst in the mouth is due to poor dental hygiene and a habit of cheek or lip biting due to stress.
