We have mentioned them below for your reference and understanding of the same:

  • The age of a woman who is giving birth plays a role. As her age increases, so does the changes of giving birth to a child with this condition.
  • It can be passed down due to genetics as well

Down syndrome Causes There are few factors that lead to Down syndrome causes which have been identified by researchers. One main cause is when a child has a 21st chromosome. We have discussed below for your understanding some of these causes across the types in details:

  • When baby’s cell develops each cell is supposed to have 23 pairs of chromosomes, making it 46 in total. Half of them are from the mother and half from the father. When one of them does not separate properly then this happens.

These are some common causes that are known to cause this condition. How is Down syndrome diagnosed? For Down syndrome diagnosis, a Down syndrome doctor will need to perform a certain number of imaging tests for this condition as there is no one common test to understand the root cause of the problem. As mentioned, the doctor may then have to conduct multiple tests to get a proper understanding of the problem:

  • A screening test will be done for the mother to know if there is a likelihood that she is carrying a child with this condition. However, this test cannot tell for sure or even diagnose whether the baby has down syndrome or not.
  • Certain diagnostic tests will be done by the doctor to identify whether the baby has down syndrome.
